The
Washington Institute for Israel Health Policy Research was
founded in 1993 in order to develop stronger connections
between Israel and the US in the area of health policy
research.
The
Washington Institute is committed to:
• Spearheading research on the Israeli health system
through collaboration with American counterparts
• Providing a seminar base for visiting Israeli health
policy researchers
• Sending students to perform research and work in health
care institutions in Israel
• Serving as a clearinghouse in the US for Israeli health
policy literature
• Disseminating to Israeli researchers and policy makers
new developments in the US health care system
• Stimulating interest in the Israeli health care system by
health researchers and policy makers in the US
To
date, the Washington Institute has:
• Sponsored seminars at the Embassy of Israel and area
universities on health reform, managed care, children's
health, and physician immigration to Israel
• Sent students from various US universities to conduct
health policy projects at the Chaim Sheba Medical Centre in
Tel Hashomer, the Barzalai Hospital in Ashkelon, the
Israeli Ministry of Health, and the Brookdale Institute in
Jerusalem
• Encouraged joint research projects with Israeli
colleagues on the Israeli health care system
• Established the Sabbatical Initiative to inform Israeli
scholars about sabbatical opportunities in the US, as well
as to inform American scholars about sabbatical
opportunities in Israel
• Played an influential role in establishing e-mail links
with Israeli health policy researchers
